Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary Background Currently Myanmar’s only Ramsar Stie, Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary (MWWS) covers an area of 40 sq-mile and is located around an artificial lake constructed in 1904, at Bago and Waw Townships in the Bago Region. The lake was created by the construction of a dyke to the north, east and south of the site. A main road is found to the west. The surrounding area is mostly flat, becomes flooded during the rainy season and is dry during summer, although some permanent water bodies exist.

Objectives

- To promote accumulative assessment and measures for effective conservation and management on wetlands

- To establish intensive management system of the sanctuary by upgrading Wetland Management Unit

- To review the Annual Work Plan of MWWS and develop the guidelines for effective wetlands conservation and management to ensure long term sustainability of Myanmar’s Wetlands

- To strengthen law enforcement in order to insure the sustainable conservation of the MWWS

Our Vision & Concept

Myanmar tourism is just beginning to take-off and the potential is promising There are many interesting attractions in Myanmar, but nearly all such destinations are hard to get to, and require travel by local flights and/or many hours of land transport. There are very few tourist destinations within a two hour drive from Yangon; Moeyungyi lake resort is to be developed into a world class eco-tourism destination and conference center that will fill this vacuum to attract tourists.

Moeyungyi Resort Brief Profile

In 1996, The Visit Myanmar Year, Shwe Pyi Aye Co.,Ltd jointed cooperated with Ministry of Forestry to promote this wetlands from ground zero to eco resort
Under Myanmar Citizen Investment law, Shwe Pyi Aye Tours Co.,Ltd is permitted to invest and operate the Hospitality and Resort development in Moeyungyi Wetlands for long term leased agreement by Myanma Investment Commission in 2016

Uniqueness of Moeyungyi

Moeyungyi has been designated a Ramsar site, which means it is judged by the Ramsar convention based in Switzerland, to be an important wetland for its bio-diversity.
Myanmar is on both the Central and East Asian flyways of migratory birds.

Existing Facilities at Resort

10 boat houses and 8 bungalows which can accommodate up to 50 tourists in total; Food Village and nature bamboo huts for picnic
A meeting/conference center up to 250 people;
Bird watching towers for migratory bird watching season between November and February.

Our Core Activities

•  Concept will be a “sanctuary” for detoxification for spirit, body and mind; 

•  All its activities will revolve around these ideas and provide a “quiet” setting for people who need this type of ambience.
•  This area will also focus strongly on eco- tourism and preservation of bio-diversity in surrounding environment.
